A tall tree, reaching 20-25 metres in height at maturity. E. blakelyi has an open canopy with grey-green lance-shaped leaves and smooth grey-cream bark. Common in the grassy woodlands of western slopes on the tablelands, this species prefers alluvial flats, midslope terrain or depressions with seasonal water flows. E. blakelyi is a hardy paddock tree, providing effective shade and shelter for stock. Producing white flowers in spring and summer, the species provides valuable nectar, pollen, and seeds which attract bees and insect-eating birds. Older trees also provide hollows for native wildlife. The wood is dense, durable, and suitable for use as firewood. It grows best on loamy soils but also tolerates heavier soil types with poorer properties. Once established, E. blakelyi tolerates frost, drought, and occasional water-logging.
